I’m sorry to tell you that there is no official HSK test center in Seattle. Believe it or not, there’s not even a HSK testing center in the entire state of Washington. Your closest HSK testing is in Oregon at Portland State University. There used to be a lot more options but a lot of Confucius Institutes have closed over the past few years.

Wait, what happened to all the other test sites?
Well, the most convenient one was in Vancouver, Canada but it’s closed. There have actually been many Confucius Institutes closing in recent years due to some political controversy. While this doesn’t affect test takers directly, it has made it more difficult to find test locations.
There might be a location in Seattle but if it’s still active I haven’t been able to find any proof. The statewide Confucius Institute through Seattle Public Schools might still be active and might offer HSK or YCT tests but if so I haven’t been able to find confirmation anywhere online or offline. If you do find some, please share it here and help other people.
There also used to be one at the University of Oregon but that got closed for complex legal and political reasons.
In case you also want to know when you could take the tests, you can check the official HSK schedule or the official YCT schedule for specific test dates. It’s worth calling up Portland State University first though. While exams can be offered on those dates, not every HSK test center is willing or able to host all the exams. Sometimes it’s budget limitations, sometimes it’s a competing event on campus, but whatever the reason you definitely want to double-check with them first, especially if you’re driving all the way from Seattle to Portland.
How do I register for the test
You need to go to the official Hanban website about a month in advance to register. All you do is create an account, sign up, and show up on the test day. Your results should be available online about a month after the test. Check out our more detailed writeup.
Preparing for the test
We’ve got a ton of great material on preparing for the HSK, including practice tests and reading exercises.
We’ve also got excellent materials for the YCT, including practice tests, writing tests, and listening tests.
