I give more details, including the website and contact information, below but first let me answer a few other questions.
What else does a Confucius Institute do?
It depends heavily on the location. Some are universities with a research focus while others are immersion schools for young children and, as you can imagine, each one can vary widely in what services it offers. In general though, look for three things at a Confucius Institue:
- Chinese lessons or speaking practice: This is really common at universities, where you can take a variety of college classes on the Chinese language. Even if you don’t take the classes, they often have tutors or students who will be happy to practice speaking Chinese with you.
- Cultural Events: This can vary from theater to concerts to cooking classes to calligraphy but lots of Confucius Institutes offer a variety of cultural events.
- Study Abroad Opportunities: If you’re looking to study abroad in China, a Confucius Institute should be your first stop. Not only will they have the best variety of official study abroad programs, but there’s often scholarships for every level of fluency. I’ve seen programs as generous as paying all expenses for a 3-week program except the flight.
When can I take the HSK?
